A wedding on the smaller side on the roof of Corrigan Station in Kansas City, Missouri. This intimate wedding was full of fun from start to finish. Though we were a little worried about the rain, the weather held off for the most part and the party enjoyed a beautiful sunset to kick off the dancing. But before I get ahead of myself, let's start at the beginning.
This was an 8-hour photo+video booking, our standard package. That meant we were able to capture the day from the getting ready period to the peak of dancefloor craziness. We started with the details while the bride was still getting to the venue and organizing her party. Peep those amazing engagement photos... I wonder who took those! (Me!)
After the details were documented, mom helped bride into her dress. This venue space has a penthouse with big, lovely windows overlooking the cityscape on all sides. Not only does that mean great backgrounds, it also means a lot of natural light.
With bride in her dress, it was time for the first looks. THIS BRIDE HAD SIX FIRST LOOKS!

Each one was so sweet. The first four we did in the penthouse, the one with the groom was done at the Kauffman Center before couples portraits, and the last one was done outside the elevator to the venue.
As the title alludes to, the ceremony was Oscars style. This meant designated tables instead of rows of chairs. This was our first Oscars style wedding. Honestly, it was great! Nothing needed to be reset for the reception and there wasn't the awkward transition of people trying to find their seats at the end of the cocktail hour. The only issue we had was not being used to such a short "aisle" during the ceremony walkout. I found myself in the lap of a very understanding guest while trying to capture the bride and groom's dip kiss. Fortunately I got the shot!
Cocktail hour flew by pretty quickly because of family portraits, and soon the reception kicked off. Bride and groom had their first dance before going up to the penthouse for a private dinner. After they'd eaten, we did a private cake cutting. This was perhaps the most beautiful wedding cake I've ever photographed! Shoutout to
Speeches from both dads, bridesmaids, and one groomsman were next. Then the couple did something unique for the special dances. The bride danced a lovely dance with her father. But halfway through the groom's dance with his mother, they called all the moms and sons to the dancefloor to join in. Then, even more unexpected. the bride surprised her mom with a dance, calling the moms and daughters in the audience to the dancefloor halfway through as well. If you're looking for something unique and special for your reception, this is it!
The dancefloor went crazy after that with a t-shirt toss and throwing beads. We corralled the bride and groom for a quick couple of photos and videos at sunset, but other than that, we captured candids of the dancing. The groom serenaded the bride with some karaoke and they partied the night away with their friends. All-in-all, this was a unique and intimate wedding that didn't skimp on the party fun and fully utilized the beautiful rooftop of Corrigan Station.
